Retire in Austin

Meet Robert

Want to know what it's like to retire in Austin?

I grew up in the New York City area and moved to Austin, Texas in 1994 where I still live today. I'm now semi-retired and do a few jobs for fun and to keep me busy!

So Robert, what about Austin initially appealed to you?

In 1994, when I moved here from New York City, I found Austin to be smaller and much more livable. It is an active, high energy locale and I particularly enjoy the city's thriving music and arts scene.

What is an aspect of the area that you, or other retirees may dislike?

As you could expect for Texas, the summers can get quite hot. Also, real estate can be pricey and with a city the size of Austin, folks should expect some traffic.

What is an aspect of your daily life in the area that you weren't expecting before you moved?

Austin is both cosmopolitan and outdoors friendly - two aspects that residents definitely enjoy.

If you ever left Austin, what would you miss the most?

I'd definitely miss the easygoing lifestyle and culture of the city and its people!

What advice would you have for people moving to this community?

Make sure to explore both Austin and the various communities surrounding the city. There are rural and suburban areas that may have amenities more to your liking.
