Retire in Evanston

Meet Sue

Want to know what it's like to retire in Evanston?

I have lived in Evanston since 1962 when I came here to attend NU, and I never left. I am a speech/language pathologist by profession. I was married for 41 years, but I have been a widow for the past 7 years. I have one biological son, two step kids and four grandchildren.

So Sue, what about Evanston initially appealed to you?

Northwestern University initially appealed to me, and I fell in love with the town after that.

What is an aspect of the area that you, or other retirees may dislike?

Evanston is not necessarily affordable to all, and seems to be becoming less so.

What is an aspect of your daily life in the area that you weren't expecting before you moved?

Mainly, that I would never leave.

If you ever left Evanston, what would you miss the most?

I have grown roots here, and would miss just about everything!

What advice would you have for people moving to this community?

Become familiar with what Evanston has to offer. Subscribe to the local paper and online information sources. Volunteer if that appeals to you.
