Can you buy a condo/retirement living for under $160,000?

Although San Diego is a great place to retire, it is tougher to manage if you're on a tight budget. Not only is the cost of living much higher than the national average, but housing costs are high as well, with the median price of a 2br property hovering around $425k. It is still possible to find properties under $200k, but have prepared to search a bit harder!

From what I can gather, as a non expert, about 3% of the housing is between $100-$200K. However, we are also looking in the surrounding towns. For example, Santee has 10% of their homes for $100-200K. Seems the further you get from the coast, the less expensive the homes.
